Selector Lever Cable

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pry lever (80-200)

Removing

- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.

- Loosen the quick release screws - 2 - and - 3 - and remove the rear noise insulation.





Vehicles With a 4 Cylinder Engine

- Remove the vehicle floor plates at the inside left - 2 - and inside right - 1 -.





- Remove the rear crossmember from the vehicle floor, remove bolts - 1 through 4 - to do so.





Continuation for All

- Remove bolts - 1 through 6 - and remove the front crossmember from the vehicle floor.

The flex joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10 degrees, otherwise it may be damaged.





- Remove the exhaust system double clamp nuts - arrows -.

- Remove the heat shield below the shift mechanism.

- Remove the bracket - 3 - for the selector lever cable by first removing bolts - 2 -.





- Using the pry lever (80-200), pry the selector lever cable - A - from the lever for selector shaft - arrow -.





- Remove the lower cover nuts - arrows - from the shift mechanism.





- Detach the selector lever cable sleeve from the shift mechanism bottom cover and slide back.

- Remove the retaining clip - 1 - for the selector lever cable on the shift mechanism downward.





- Pull plastic securing spring - 2 - slightly towards the front and pull the pin - 3 - upward only as far as necessary - arrow -.

Make sure that pin is not pulled completely out.

- Remove the selector lever cable - 4 - from the shift mechanism.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

- Loosen the lock nuts - 6 - and remove the selector lever cable - 5 - from the support bracket - 4 -.





Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Installing

Installation is in the reverse order of removal, note the following:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Lightly grease the eyelet and the ball socket of the selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2 ) before installing.

- Slide the selector lever cable into the shift mechanism and secure it with retaining clip - 1 -.





Installation position: Angled end of retaining clip points toward rear.

- Insert the end of the selector lever cable - 4 - into the selector lever joint.

- Press the pin - 3 - downward - arrow -.

- Check whether the plastic securing spring - 2 - has locked the pin.

- Button selector lever cable boot into lower cover.

- Install the lower cover to the shift mechanism and secure with the nuts - arrows -.





- Bolt the selector lever cable - 5 - to the support bracket - 4 -, tighten the lock nuts - 6 - to 12 Nm.





- Press the selector shaft lever - A - on the transmission completely toward the rear - arrow - until the parking lock engages.





- Check whether the selector lever is in the "P" position, then press the ball socket of the selector lever cable - 5 - carefully onto the lever for the selector shaft - 7 -.





Take care not to bend the selector shaft lever when pressing it on; support it as necessary, otherwise the selector mechanism can no longer be adjusted properly.

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Install the exhaust system and align it free of tension.
