November 6, 2008.
Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 07-50 dated November 1, 2007 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
91 Parking aid volume level too quiet
Condition
The warning tones for the rear parking aid are too quiet, even at the highest volume setting.
Technical Background
Due to potentially high ambient noise levels in the A4 Cabriolet, it may be difficult for the driver to hear the parking aid tones.
Production Solution
Rear parking aid speaker location changed.
Service
Check the adjustment settings of the parking aid control unit J446 (address word 76). The volume level and pitch of the warning tone can be adjusted using Adaptation Channels 1 and 2, respectively. Select Guided Functions >> 76 - Parking Assistance, rear >> J446-Parking Aid Ctrl.Mo., buzzer adaptation.
Tip:
By increasing the volume level and adjusting the pitch of the warning tone, it is often possible to create an audible tone for the customer.
Repositioning the rear parking aid speaker
If it is not possible to create a sufficiently audible tone for the customer, the parking aid speaker H15 can be repositioned to the right rear radio speaker using the procedure below.
1. Remove the following components: rear head restraints and seats; right rear side trim; ski sack.
2. Disconnect the harness connector and remove the parking aid speaker. Do not discard.
3. Remove retaining clips to loosen the harness back to the rollover protection module junction.
4. Reroute the harness to the right rear speaker.
1. Fix the cable under the holders (Figure 3, A).
2. Route the cable in the cable duct (Figure 3, B).
3. Use the cable binder to attach the cable to the wiring loom (Figure 3, C).
5. Attach the removed parking aid speaker to the bracket, part number 8H0 919 937.
6. Remove the right 2 screws from the right rear speaker and use them to attach the parking aid speaker and bracket to the body. Connect the wiring harness to the parking aid speaker.
7. Trim the foam insulation on the side trim piece as shown in Figures 6-7.
8. Reinstall all removed seat and interior trim components.
9. Adjust the parking aid speaker volume and pitch to the customer's preference. Guided Functions >> 76 - Parking Assistance, rear >> J446-Parking Aid Ctrl.Mo., buzzer adaptation.
