Selector lever cable, removing and installing (vehicles with 2.0 ltr. TFSI engine) - 09L, 6 Speed AWD A/T

Removing

^ Shift selector lever to position "P".





^ Open quick release fasteners - 2 - and - 3 - and remove rear sound insulation.





^ Pry ball socket - 1 - of selector lever cable off selector shaft lever.
^ Remove support bracket from transmission - arrows -.

Note:
^ Shown in illustration with transmission support removed.





- Remove heat shield - A - for driveshaft - arrows -.





- Remove heat shield - 1 - for exhaust system below selector mechanism - arrows -.
- Remove bolts at transmission/driveshaft flange.
- Push driveshaft - 2 - together toward rear final drive. The constant velocity joints can be moved axially.





- Tie driveshaft up to side onto heat shield - arrow -.





- Remove selector lever cable sleeve from selector mechanism cover (bottom) and slide back.
- Remove cover on underside of selector mechanism - arrows -.





- Remove retaining clip - 1 - for selector lever cable by pulling it off downward at selector mechanism.
- Pull plastic securing spring - 2 - slightly forward and press pin - 3 - upward, but only as far as is necessary - arrow -.

Note:
^ Make sure that pin is not pressed out completely.

- Pull selector lever cable - 4 - out of selector mechanism.

Note:
^ Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.





Installing

Installation is performed in reverse sequence. Note the following:

- install new retaining clip - 1 - for selector lever cable on selector mechanism.

^ Installation position: The angled end of the retaining clip faces to the inside of the selector mechanism.

- Insert end of selector lever cable - 4 - in joint on selector lever.
- Push pin - 3 - down - arrow -.
- Check that plastic securing spring - 2 - has locked the pin.





- Secure cover to underside of selector mechanism - arrows -.
- Attach sleeve for selector lever cable to selector mechanism cover (bottom).
- Shift selector lever from position "P" to "S".

^ Selector mechanism and selector lever cable must move freely. If necessary replace selector lever cable or service selector mechanism.

Note:
^ Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

- Shift selector lever to position "P".





- Push selector shaft lever - 2 - on transmission toward rear as far as possible (in illustration: as far as possible to the right) until parking lock engages.

Note:
^ When the parking lock has engaged it should no longer be possible to rotate both front wheels in one direction.

- Make sure that the selector lever cable - 1 - has not been bent or kinked and that it is not under tension.





- Carefully press selector lever cable - 1 - onto ball head of selector shaft lever - 3 -.

Note:
^ Make sure you do not bend the selector shaft lever when pressing on the ball socket, as this would make it impossible to obtain an accurate adjustment of the selector mechanism.





- Bolt on support bracket for selector lever cable - arrows -.
- Adjust selector lever cable.
- Bolt driveshaft onto transmission.
- Install exhaust system free of stress.
