Locking cable, removing and installing - 09L, 6 Speed AWD A/T

Removing

Note:
^ The locking cable must not be bent or kinked.

- Shift selector lever to position "S".

CAUTION!
Follow steps required when disconnecting battery.

- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Remove storage compartment on drivers side.
- Remove steering column cover.
- Remove A/C control console.
- Remove ashtray from center console.
- Remove selector mechanism cover.
- Turn ignition key to "ignition on" position.
- Shift selector lever to position "P".





1 - Locking cable

- Lift up retaining clip - 2 - on locking device and pull locking rod - 1 - off starter switch.
- Lift up locking cable securing spring - 4 -. Pull locking cable support bracket - 5 - sideways off selector mechanism, then disengage locking cable eye.

Installing

Installation is performed in reverse sequence. Note the following:

- Route locking cable behind instrument panel brace - arrow - without kinking.
- Turn ignition key to "ignition on" position.
- Insert locking cable - 1 - into starter switch.
- Check that locking device - 2 - engages.
- Turn starter switch to locked position (ignition off).
- Make sure that selector lever is in position "P".
- Hook eye of locking cable onto pin - 3 -.
- Lift up securing spring - 4 - slightly.
- Insert locking cable support bracket - 5 - into selector mechanism from the right. Push it in so that securing spring - 4 - engages.
- Adjust locking cable Go To Locking cable, adjusting 09L, 6 Speed AWD A/T.
- Install selector mechanism cover.
- Install ashtray in center console.
- Install air conditioning operating unit.
- Install steering column cover.
- Install storage compartment on drivers side.
- Follow steps required after connecting battery.
