Front Seats with Forward/Back Adjustment Motor or Control Module Malfunction, Removing and Installing

NOTE:
- If possible: Tilt seat up.
- Before disconnecting battery: Obtain coding of radio.
- Seat is shown without upholstery and without backrest in picture for the sake of a better illustration.

CAUTION:
- Loosen bolts - 6 - only after checking electrical or electronic components and wires.
- After loosening bolts - 6 -, lower part of seat pan - 7 - including Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor V288 must be replaced with transverse member - 9 -.








1 - Screw
- Tightening torque
- Threaded holes for screws must always be cleaned (for example, with thread cutter)

2 - Screw
- Tightening torque
- Qty. 4

3 - Screw
- Tightening torque

4 - Seat pan upper frame

Removal

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.

- Remove screw - 1 -.
- Remove nut - 5 - and bolt - 3 -.
- Fold seat fully toward front. If necessary: Remove steering wheel.

CAUTION: Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "electrostatically discharge". This can be touching door striker, for example.

NOTE: Check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing seat further to avoid unnecessary repair costs.

- Perform the following tests:
- Check fuse Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
- Check voltage at connector station, perform fault-finding if necessary Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
- Check voltage to control module Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
- Check voltage to Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor V288 Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations

- If fuse is faulty: replace fuse.
- If voltage to connector station is low: repair or replace wire.
- If control module is defective: Replace control module.
- If Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor V288 is faulty: replace lower frame of seat pan - 7 -.

Further removal only if Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor V288 is faulty
- Disconnect battery ground wire.
- Remove bolts - 6 - (Qty. 4).

CAUTION: Before removing seat: Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap.

- Disconnect connector - 8 -.
- Tip front seat back.
- Move seat until bolts - 2 - (Qty. 4) are visible.
- Remove bolts - 2 - (Qty. 4).
- Disconnect harness connectors.
- Connect airbag adapter.
- With help from a second technician, lift front seat out of vehicle.
- Disconnect seat pan lower frame - 7 - and upper frame - 4 -.
- Replace seat pan lower frame - 7 - with Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor V288 with the transverse member - 9 - Seat Pan, Disassembling and Assembling.

5 - Nut
- Threaded holes for screws must always be cleaned (for example, with thread cutter)

6 - Screw
- Qty. 4
- For transverse member to seat pan lower frame

7 - Lower seat pan frame
- Replace

8 - Connector
9 - Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor V288 with transverse member

Installing
- Install front seat.
