Locking Cable

Removing

Do not kink locking cable.

- Place selector lever in position "S".

CAUTION!
Observe procedures for disconnecting battery.

- With ignition switched off, disconnect the battery Ground (GND) cable.

- Remove storage compartment on driver's side.

- Remove steering column cover.

- Remove air conditioning operating unit.

- Remove ashtray in center console.

- Remove cover for shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Cover ] Selector Mechanism Cover.

- Turn ignition key to run position (ignition on).

- Place selector lever in position "P".

- Lift retaining clip - 2 - from interlock lever and pull locking cable - 1 - out of ignition/starter switch.





- Lift locking cable retaining spring and remove cable to the side - arrows -.









- Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

- Route locking cable kink-free behind instrument panel strut - arrow -.

- Turn ignition key to run position (ignition on).

- Insert locking cable - 1 - into ignition/starter switch.

- Check interlock lever - 2 -.

- Turn ignition/starter switch to locked position ("ignition off").

- Check whether selector lever is in position "P".

- Engage locking cable eye in pins - 3 -.

- Raise retaining spring - 4 - slightly.

- Slide locking cable mounting bracket - 5 - from right into selector mechanism until retaining spring - 4 - engages.

- Adjust locking cable. Refer to => [ Locking Cable Adjusting ] Locking Cable Adjusting.

- Install cover for shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Cover ] Selector Mechanism Cover.

- Install the ashtray into the center console.

- Install A/C controls.

- Install steering column cover.

- Install driver storage compartment.

- Observe procedures for connecting battery.
