Selector Lever Cable (Through VIN 8E_6A156499), Adjusting
Selector lever cable (through VIN 8E_6A156499), adjusting - 01J, Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Socket and key T40031
- Remove cover for shift mechanism.
Note:
^ There is a distinction between vehicles with "PRND" shift mechanisms (up to model year 2004) and vehicles with "PRNDS" shift mechanisms (as of model year 2005).
^ In vehicles with "PRND" shift mechanisms (through model year 2004), selector lever cable adjustment is performed in selector lever position "D".
^ In vehicles with "PRNDS" shift mechanisms (from model year 2005), selector lever cable adjustment is performed in selector lever position "S".
Vehicles with "PRND" shift mechanisms
- Place selector lever in position "D".
- Loosen rear clamping screw on selector lever cable through hole in shift mechanism approx. one turn using socket and key T40031.
Note:
^ Loosen clamping screw only approx. 1 turn. Do not remove.
^ Clamping screw is only accessible in selector lever position "D".
^ Selector lever must remain in position "D" while clamping screw is loose.
- Carefully move selector lever lightly toward front and rear without shifting into another selector lever position, this releases the tension on selector lever cable.
- Check exact position of selector lever in position "D" by pushing selector lever lightly towards drivers seat - arrow A -.
Note:
^ Do not touch selector lever during the adjustment.
- Without touching selector lever, tighten clamping screw in this position using socket and key T40031.
Vehicles with "PRNDS" shift mechanisms
- Place selector lever in position "S".
- Loosen rear clamping screw on selector lever cable through the hole in shift mechanism approx. one turn using socket and key T40031.
Note:
^ Loosen clamping screw only 1 turn. Do not remove.
^ Clamping screw is only accessible in selector lever position "S".
^ The selector lever must remain in position "S" with clamping bolt loosened, otherwise the setting is not correct.
- Carefully move selector lever forwards and backwards slightly without shifting to a different selector lever position.
- Pull selector lever completely toward rear once more until it stops in position "S" and release selector lever.
Note:
^ Do not touch selector lever during the adjustment.
- Without touching selector lever, tighten clamping screw in this position using socket and key T40031.
Vehicles with "PRND" and "PRNDS" shift mechanisms
- Install cover for shift mechanism.
- Check shift mechanism.
Note:
^ Using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A, the position of Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch F125 can be compared to position on selector lever via On Board Diagnostic (OBD), 02 - Transmission electronics, 08 - Read measured value block, display group 2 in display field - 1 -.
If shift mechanism does not function properly after adjusting selector lever cable:
- Bring selector lever cable into basic setting.
