Input Shaft - 01J, Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Puller T40050
Removing
Note:
^ Observe general repair notes.
^ Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions.
^ Transmission removed and secured vertically to assembly stand.
- Drain ATF, pivot transmission in installation position (level).
Note:
^ Transmission must not be turned so that flange points downward.
- Remove bolts - arrows -.
- Carefully tap against the input shaft cover with a rubber hammer to loosen it from the seal.
- Secure Puller T40050 on transmission input shaft.
- Check Puller T40050 for secure seating on input shaft.
^ Circlip must be pushed all the way down.
- Pull input shaft cover and the forward clutch on Puller T40050 out of transmission housing - arrow -.
CAUTION!
^ Input shaft must not be set down on the projecting oil pipe - arrow - otherwise it will be damaged.
^ If the oil pipe is damaged, starting problems or a transmission malfunction will result.
CAUTION!
The reverse gear clutch plates must not be removed from the transmission housing.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- Check wear on transmission components.
- Clean sealing surfaces on the transmission housing and on the input shaft cover.
- Check whether bushings - arrows - for centering the input shaft cover on transmission housing are installed and seated securely.
- Replace axial sealing element seal - arrow -.
Note:
^ The axial sealing element is illustrated in section.
^ Axial sealing element installation position: The sealing lips face upward toward the input shaft cover.
- Place paper gasket in position.
- Align clutch discs of reverse gear clutch e.g. using a straight-edge.
^ Splines must stand exactly in a row.
- Check installation dimension of oil pipe - arrow -:
^ When the oil pipe is installed all the way, dimension - a - is 11.5 mm from the end of the oil pipe up to the input shaft.
If dimension is smaller, the oil pipe possibly is damaged as it was pushed in too far and is broken at the end.
If dimension is larger, it is not pushed in far enough.
CAUTION!
^ Input shaft must not be set down on the projecting oil pipe - arrow - otherwise it will be damaged.
^ If the oil pipe is damaged, starting problems or a transmission malfunction will result.
- Insert entire input shaft into transmission housing.
- Use back and forth rotating motions - arrow - on input shaft until clutch discs of reverse gear clutch have engaged. Raise input shaft slightly when doing this.
- Just before the input shaft is fully in position, rotate it counter-clockwise over the last few millimeters so that it engages in the teeth of the helical intermediate gearing.
- Tighten bolts - arrows - in diagonal sequence and in stages.
- Fill with ATF.
- After installing the transmission, check the ATF level and add if necessary.
