Left Flange Shaft, Removing and Installing



Left flange shaft, removing and installing - 01J, Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Drift VW 295





^ Puller T1 0037
^ Oil receptacle

Removing

^ Transmission installed.

- Remove left front wheel.





- On vehicles equipped with auxiliary heater, remove bolts - arrows - for exhaust pipe of auxiliary/additional heater to noise insulation.





- Remove bolts or quick-release screws - 1 to 3 - and remove noise insulation at front and rear.





- If installed, remove bolt - 1 - for noise insulation cover over left drive axle.
- Disengage hook - 2 - and remove noise insulation cover.
- Where installed, remove heat shield for left drive axle.
- Remove left drive axle.
- Place an oil receptacle underneath transmission.





- Tightly thread lower support of puller T1 0037 on cover for differential - arrow -.

Note:
^ To avoid damage to the needle bearings (polygon bearings) or differential during removal, the flange shaft must be removed evenly, parallel and without one sided pressure

- Pull left flange shaft using puller T1 0037 only far enough out until bearing on shaft is pulled out of transmission housing.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Replace securing ring for flange shaft, to do this, clamp flange shaft in a vise with protective pads.





- Press old securing ring out of groove of flange shaft with new securing ring - A -.
- Clean flange shaft.
- A damaged sealing ring must be replaced.
- Drive in flange shaft using needle bearing drift VW 295.
- Install left drive axle.
- Check gear oil level in front final drive.
