Nut Securing Transverse Link to Subframe
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)
• Replace nut for securing transverse link to subframe if damaged. Only use replacement nut listed in replacement parts catalog for repairs.
• Because of poor accessibility to inner bolt - 1 - when vehicle is resting on wheels, transverse link can only be removed when subframe is removed.
• Measure vehicle after repair. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
Removing
- Remove subframe. Refer to => [ Subframe ] Service and Repair.
- Separate connection - 1 -.
- Swing transverse link upward out of subframe bracket.
• When installing cylinder bolt, ensure transverse link is not damaged.
- Install, for example, a cylinder bolt with hex socket head M12 x 1.5 x 20 (ET No. N902 268 01) - 1 - in nut - 2 - up to stop.
As an emergency solution, you can also use hex head bolt M12.1.5 x 20.
- Turn cylinder screw more until damaged nut unscrews from subframe bracket.
Installing
• Replace bolts and self-locking nuts. Notes in exploded view diagrams. Refer to => [ Subframe ] FWD.
- Insert transverse link in subframe bracket.
- Insert replacement nut - 2 - in subframe bracket using new combi-bolt - 1 -.
- Tighten combi-bolt - 1 -.
- Install subframe. Refer to => [ Subframe ] Service and Repair.
- Perform vehicle alignment. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
Alignment must take place on a VW/Audi recommended alignment stand.
