Third Rear Three-Point Seat Belt, Fixed Rear Seat Backrest
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)
1 Belt Tensioner
2 Bolt
• Tightening specification 55 Nm
• With sealing ring
• The sealing ring - 4 - must always be replaced.
3 Latch Trim
4 Seal
• Must be replaced
5 Bolt
• Tightening specification 55 Nm

7 Rear Shelf
8 Belt Guide
9 Belt Tensioner Connector
10 Belt Webbing
• Removal:
- Remove rear bench seat. Refer to through October 2004 => [ Bench Seat, through October 2004 ] Rear Seats; from November 2004 => [ Bench Seat, from November 2004 ] Rear Seats.
- Remove rear seat backrest. Refer to => [ Rear Seat Backrest, Fixed ] Rear Seats.
- Remove bolts - 2 -.
- Unclip belt guide cover - 8 -.
- With fixed rear seat backrest, remove rear shelf. Refer to => [ Rear Shelf ] Trim.
- To disconnect harness connector - 9 -, open retainer using a screwdriver (USA).
- Remove bolt - 5 - (Qty. 1).
- Remove belt tensioner - 1 -.
• Installing:
- With belt tensioner - 1 - removed, install bolt - 5 - 1-2 threads.
- Insert belt tensioner - 1 - with bolt - 5 - in mounts and press belt tensioner - 1 - all the way forward.
- Tighten bolts - 5 -.
- Tighten bolts - 2 -.
- Thread belt webbing - 10 - into latch trim - 3 - without twisting.
- Guide belt webbing - 10 - in direction of arrow - A - around latch trim - 3 - and thread in direction of arrow - B -.
- Ensure connector - 9 - (USA) is engaged correctly.
- Clip stretched belt tensioner ignition wire into retaining tab - 6 -.
- Clip belt guide - 8 - into rear shelf - 7 -.
- On vehicles with belt tensioners, belt wear detection must be checked. Refer to => [ Rear Three-Point Seat Belt with Belt Tensioner, Checking Belt Fastening Detection ] Seat Belts, Inspecting.
