Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Hollow piston cylinder VAS 6179
^ Hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178
^ Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with universal transmission support V.A.G 1359/2
^ Assembly tool T10263
^ Assembly tool T10205/13
Front or rear bonded rubber bushings, removing
- Remove rear wheels.
- Remove coil springs.
- Remove exhaust system rear muffler.
- Disconnect electrical wires to the Haldex clutch and the connectors on vehicles with automatic headlamp range control.
- Remove stabilizer bar.
- Remove tie rods.
- Unclip electrical lines to upper transverse links.
CAUTION
Before LOOSENING subframe bolts, secure vehicle against tipping over (e.g. load luggage compartment with approximately 50 kg).
- Place engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with universal transmission support V.A.G 1359/2 below subframe and secure with strap.
- Remove hex bolts -1- and -2-.
Note:
^ For the sake of a better illustration, only the left side of the vehicle is shown.
- Lower subframe 10 cm using engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- Mark location of bonded rubber bushings to subframe, e.g. with a felt-tip pen.
- Install pressure head T10205/13 in Hydraulic Press VAS 6178.
Affects vehicles with an aluminum subframe
- Install special tools as shown in illustration.

- Pretension special tools.
- Remove bonded rubber bushing by operating pump.

- Install special tools as shown in illustration.
- Pretension special tools.
- Remove bonded rubber bushing by operating pump.
Affects all vehicles
- Install special tools as shown in illustration.

- Pretension special tools.
- Remove bonded rubber bushing by operating pump.
Affects all vehicles
Front or rear bonded rubber bushings, installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:
Front and rear bonded rubber bushings have slightly different installation heights. Ensure correct allocation when installing.
Bonded rubber bushing must be installed in the correct direction, note marking on subframe.
- Insert special tools with bonded rubber bushing into subframe as illustrated.
CAUTION
Thrust piece T10263/3 must be positioned so that locking tabs on bonded rubber bushing align with opening on thrust piece T10263/3.

- Pretension special tool with bonded rubber bushing.
- Pull in bonded rubber bushing until stop by operating pump.
Note:
^ When pulling in, ensure bonded rubber bushing only contacts subframe lightly.

Checking and aligning front/rear axle must take place on a VW/Audi recommended alignment stand.
