Clutch Release Mechanism
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pressure Plate (VW 401)
• Punch (VW 412)
• Thrust Piece (VW 454)
• Sleeve (2040)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Internal Puller (Kukko 21/4)
• Counter-Support (Kukko 22/1)
• Thread Locking Compound (AMV 185 101 A1)
• Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1)
• Copper Grease (Z 381 351 TE)
• Adhesive (AMV 195 KD1 01)
Release Bearing, Checking or Servicing with Bonded Plastic Ring
Identification: Inner side of plastic ring with three retaining tabs - arrows -.
When removing transmission or release bearing, plastic ring - arrows - may come loose from release bearing. This does not mean release bearing has to be replaced.
- Before installing transmission, adhere loose plastic ring onto bearing race again using Adhesive (AMV 195 KD1 01 ).
Three rectangular lugs - arrows - of plastic ring engage into notches of release bearing.
• If running mark on plastic ring is deeper than 0.8 mm, release bearing must be replaced
Checking Release Bearing with Stuck-On Plastic Ring
Identification: Plastic ring with surrounding retaining tabs - arrows -.
• Release bearing with loosened plastic ring - 1 - must be replaced.
• If the running surface - arrow 2 - on plastic ring - 1 - is worn deeper than 0.8 mm, the release bearing - 3 - must be replaced.
Removing the Seal from the Guide Sleeve
A Support, e.g. ( Kukko 22/1)
B Internal Puller 23.5 to 30 mm, for example, (Kukko 21/4)
Installing the Seal all the way into the Guide Sleeve
• When doing so, open side of sealing ring faces toward Thrust Tube (VW 454).
- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1).
