Fuel Pump Electrical, Checking
Fuel Pump Electrical, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Remote control V.A.G 1348/3A with adapter cable V.A.G 1348/3-3 .
- multimeter V.A.G 1526 B or equivalent.
- Connector test set V.A.G 1594 C.
Test conditions
- Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.
- Fuse S228 OK.
- The Fuel Pump (FP) Control Module J538 OK .
- The fuel filter OK
- The ignition switched off.
Test sequence
- Remove the rear seat bench.
- Remove the right locking flange cover and bolts - arrows - .
- Disconnect the electrical harness connector - arrow - at the right locking flange.
- Connect remote control V.A.G 1348/3 A with connection V.A.G 1348/3-3 to contact - 1 - using an adapter cable from the connector test set V.A.G 1594 C.
- Using insulating tape, tape over the second contact of connection V.A.G 1348/3-3 to prevent a short circuit - arrow -.
- Connect contact - 4 - to vehicle Ground (GND) using a jumper cable from the connector test set V.A.G 1594 C.
- Connect the alligator clip to the vehicle battery (+).
- Press the switch on the remote control.
NOTE: The Fuel Pump (FP) runs quietly. Avoid surrounding noises while testing the fuel pump.
The fuel pump must run and an audible noise of the fuel pump running should be heard.
If no operating noise can be heard:
- Remove the fuel delivery unit.
- Using multimeter V.A.G 1526 B or equivalent, check the electrical connections between the flange and the fuel pump.
Specified value: Wire resistance max 0 Ohm.
If the specification is not obtained:
- Check the wiring for an open circuit.
- If necessary, repair the wiring connection.
If no malfunction is detected in the wiring, replace the fuel pump.
- Install the fuel delivery unit.
Final procedures
After the repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the following sequence:
1. Check the DTC memory.
2. If necessary, erase the DTC memory.
3. If the DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code.
- End diagnosis and switch the ignition off.
