Shift Mechanism

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Socket and key (T40031)

Removing

- Remove selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.

- Remove selector mechanism cover - 1 -. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Cover ] Selector Mechanism Cover.





- Remove air conditioning operating unit.

- Remove ashtray in center console.

- Disconnect electrical harness connector on Shift Lock Solenoid (N110).

- Raise retaining tab - A - and remove locking lever in direction of - arrow -.





- Place selector lever in position "D".

- Loosen rear clamping screw on selector lever cable through the hole in shift mechanism approximately one turn using socket and key (T40031).





• Loosen the clamping screw approximately one turn - do not remove it.

• Clamping screw is only accessible in selector lever position " D".

• Selector lever must remain in position "D" while clamping screw is loose.

- Loosen quick-release fasteners - 2 - and - 3 - and remove rear noise insulation.





- Remove tunnel braces..





• Do not bend the flex joint in the front exhaust pipe more than 10°, otherwise it will be damaged.





- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamps - arrows -.

- Remove heat shield under shift mechanism.

- Remove selector lever cable retaining clip - 1 - sideways.





- Remove selector lever cable - 2 - from shift mechanism.

• Take care not to bend or kink selector lever cable.

- Remove nuts - arrows -.





• A second technician is required when detaching shift mechanism below vehicle.

• If the clips - 1 - or - 2 - break during removal, then the selector mechanism must be replaced. If a broken part falls into the shift mechanism, it will jam up the mechanism.

- Press holder clips - 1 - and - 2 - inward, at the same time pushing shift mechanism downward.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

• Tightening specifications. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism Assembly Overview ] Shift Mechanism Assembly Overview

- Install and adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable and Locking Cable Assembly Overview ] Selector Lever Cable and Locking Cable Assembly Overview.

- Install locking cable. Refer to => [ Locking Cable ] 09LA Transmission.

- Adjust locking cable. Refer to => [ Locking Cable, Adjusting ] Locking Cable, Adjusting.

- Install exhaust system and align it free of tension.

- Check shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism, Checking ] 09LA Transmission.
