Selector shaft oil seal, replacing with transmission removed (transmission remains assembled), 01X, 6-Speed Front-wheel Drive M/T

Note:
^ Removal is also possible with transmission installed in vehicle.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Tube VW423





^ Extractor lever T20143/1
^ Assembly sleeve 01E 311 120
^ Sealing grease G 052 128 A1





Removing
^ With selector shaft installed

- Carefully pry out oil seal, making sure shaft is not damaged.





^ With selector shaft removed

- Carefully pry out oil seal using a screwdriver or oil seal extractor lever VW 681.





Installing
- To avoid damaging oil seal - C -, oil seal and selector shaft must only be installed using assembly sleeve 01E311120 - A -.
- Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half full with sealing grease G052128A1.
- Lightly oil outer circumference of seal.





- Drive oil seal - arrow - into housing as far as it will go.
