Outer constant velocity joint, servicing
Removing outer constant velocity joint
- Clamp drive axle in vise.
Use protective jaws.
- Open clamp.
- Push back boot.
- Use a hammer and copper or brass drift, to drive off inner ring of constant velocity joint.
- Remove joint.
Installing outer constant velocity joint
- Push joint boot onto drive axle.
Boot and drive axle must be free of grease.
- Install new circlip.
Always replace circlip.
- Pack 50 grams of drive axle grease inside joint body.
- Thread old bolt into CV joint as shown.
- Use plastic hammer to drive joint onto drive axle until circlip engages.
- Pug 40 grams of drive axle grease into joint on boot side.
- Ventilate from CV boot.
- Tighten clamp.
