Shift Mechanism (From VIN 8E_6A156500), Removing and Installing
Shift mechanism (from VIN 8E_6A156500), removing and installing - 01J, Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Socket and key T40031
Removing
- Remove selector lever handle.
- Remove air conditioning operating unit.
- Remove ashtray in center console.
- Release all 4 clips -arrows- and pull cover -1- with guide upwards to remove.
- Disconnect connector from side of guide plate.
- Disconnect electrical harness connector on Shift Lock Solenoid N110.
- Raise retaining tab -A- and remove locking lever in direction of -arrow-.
- Place selector lever in position "D".
- Loosen rear clamping screw on selector lever cable through hole in shift mechanism approx. one turn using socket and key T40031.
Note:
^ Loosen clamping screw only approx. 1 turn. Do not remove.
^ Clamping screw is only accessible in selector lever position "D".
^ Selector lever must remain in position "D" while clamping screw is loose.
- Loosen quick-release screws -2- and -3- and remove rear noise insulation.
- Remove tunnel braces.
Note:
^ Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamps -arrows-.
- Remove heat shield under shift mechanism
For vehicles with noise insulation -A- under shift mechanism:
- Remove lock washers -arrows-.
Note:
^ Always replace lock washers
- Remove sound insulation -A- and slide forward.
All:
- Remove selector lever cable retaining clip -1- sideways.
- Remove selector lever cable -2- from shift mechanism.
Note:
^ Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
- Remove nuts -arrows-.
Note:
^ A second technician is required when detaching shift mechanism below vehicle.
- Press holder clips -1- and -2- inward, at the same time pushing shift mechanism downward.
Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
- Install selector lever cable.
- Install locking cable.
- Adjust locking cable.
- Install exhaust system and align it free of tension.
- Check shift mechanism.
