Shift Mechanism

Removing

- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.

- Open the ashtray in the center console and remove - arrows - the trim panel.





- Remove the Air Conditioning (A/C) control.

- Remove the ashtray in the center console.

- Release all 4 clips - arrows - and pull the cover - 1 - with guide upwards to remove.





- Disconnect the connector from the side of the guide plate.

- Disconnect the electrical harness connector on the shift lock solenoid (N110).

- Disengage the locking cable - arrows -.





- Loosen the quick release screws - 2 - and - 3 - and remove the rear noise insulation.





Vehicles With 4 Cylinder Engines

- Remove the vehicle floor plates at the inside left - 2 - and inside right - 1 -.





- Remove the rear crossmember from the vehicle floor, to do so remove bolts - 1 through 4 -.





Continuation for All

- Remove the bolts - 1 through 6 - and remove the front crossmember from the vehicle floor.

• The flex joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10 degrees, otherwise it may be damaged.

- Remove the exhaust system double clamp nuts - arrows -.

- Remove the heat shield below the shift mechanism.

- Remove the lower cover nuts - arrows - from the shift mechanism.





- Detach the selector lever cable sleeve from the shift mechanism bottom cover and slide back.

- Remove the retaining clip - 1 - for the selector lever cable on the shift mechanism downward.





- Pull the plastic securing spring - 2 - slightly towards the front and pull the pin - 3 - upward - arrow - only as far as necessary.

- Remove the selector lever cable - 4 - from the shift mechanism.

• Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

- Remove nuts - arrows -.





• A second technician is required when detaching the shift mechanism from below the vehicle.

- Press the clips - 1 - and - 2 - inward, at the same time pushing the shift mechanism downward.

Installing

Installation is in the reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Install the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable.

- Install the locking cable. Refer to => [ Locking Lever ] Locking Lever.

- Adjust the locking cable. Refer to => [ Locking Lever Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Install the exhaust system and align it free of tension.

- Check the shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism Checking ] Shift Mechanism Checking.
