Locking Lever





1 - Locking cable

Removing

Do not kink the locking cable.

CAUTION!
Observe procedures for disconnecting battery.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable ground (GND).

- Remove the storage compartment on the driver's side.

- Remove the steering column trim.

- Remove Air Conditioning (A/C) system control.

- Remove the ashtray in the center console.

- Remove the cover for the shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism Cover ] Shift Mechanism Cover.

- Turn the ignition key to the driving position ("ignition on ").

- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.

- Lift the retaining clip - 2 - from the interlock lever and pull the locking cable - 1 - out of the ignition/starter switch.

- Lift the securing spring - 4 - for the locking cable and pull the locking cable support bracket - 5 - on the shift mechanism sideways and disengage the locking cable eye.

Installing

Installation is in the reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Route the locking cable kink free behind the instrument panel strut - arrow -.

- Turn the ignition key to the driving position ("ignition on ").

- Insert the locking cable - 1 - into the ignition/starter switch.

- Check the interlock lever - 2 -.

- Bring the ignition/starter switch to the locking position (" ignition off").

- Check whether the selector lever is in the "P" position.

- Engage the locking cable eye into the pin - 3 -.

- Lift the securing spring - 4 - slightly.

- Slide the locking cable support bracket - 5 - from the right into the shift mechanism until the securing spring - 4 - engages.

- Adjust the locking cable. Refer to => [ Locking Lever Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Observe procedures for connecting the battery.
