Condition





Downshifting into 5th gear is difficult, or gear cannot be selected.

Technical Background

Synchronizer ring for 5th gear becomes worn.

Production Solution

Optimized synchronizer ring (02M 311 295E).

Service

Install the following parts:

- Fifth gear synchronizer ring.

- Fifth/6th gear synchronizer hub with operating sleeve.

- Fifth gear with needle cage bearing.

Refer to Repair Manual Groups 34 and 35 for repair procedures.

- Group 34 Gearbox mechanics, operation, construction, diff.
