Note:
^ Servicing is restricted to replacement of tie rods and rubber boots. The necessary information can be found on Power steering gear (ZF), servicing.
^ Always replace self-locking nuts and bolts.
^ Welding and straightening work on steering components is not permitted.
1 - Clamp with rubber insert
^ Arrow on clamp points in direction of travel.
2 - Heat shield
3 - Hex nut, 22 Nm
4 - Hex bolt, 25 Nm
5 - Universal joint on steering column.
6 - Hex bolt, 30 Nm
^ replace
7 - Sealing collar
8 - Return line (Only for All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles)
^ Steering gear - power steering fluid reservoir
9 - Expansion hose
10 - Return line (Only for Front Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles )
^ Steering gear - power steering fluid reservoir
^ Clearance from steering gear must be 10 mm.
11 - Seals
^ replace
12 - Banjo bolt, 48 Nm M16 x 1.5
13 - Banjo bolt, 38 Nm M14 x 1.5
14 - Self-locking hex nut
^ Tightening torque: 45 Nm
^ TT VR6 Roadster: 75 Nm
^ Always replace if removed
15 - Steering knuckle on wheel bearing housing
16 - Tie rod end
17 - Lock nut, 50 Nm
^ Counterhold at flats on tie rod end when loosening and tightening
18 - Bolt with washer
^ 100 Nm plus an additional 90° 1/4 turn
^ Always replace
19 - Combination bolt
^ 100 Nm plus an additional 90° 1/4 turn
^ Always replace
20 - Hex bolt
^ 20 Nm plus an additional 90° 1/4 turn
^ Always replace: M8 x 70
21 - Pendulum support
22 - Hex bolt, 50 Nm M10 x 70
23 - Hex bolt, 50 Nm M10 x 30
24 - Hex bolt, 25 Nm M8 x 45
25 - Subframe
26 - Power steering gear
27 - Clamp
28 - Hex nut, 20 Nm
