Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test

- V.A.G 1598/31 Test box

Conditions
Ignition switched off.

Work Procedure
- Pry off both caps at wiper arms using a screwdriver.







- Loosen the nuts - arrows - by several turns.
- Loosen wiper arm -1 - from wiper axle by lightly tilting.
- Remove nuts completely and remove wiper arms.
- Remove rubber seal - 2 - for plenum chamber cover.
- Remove plenum chamber cover - 3 - and place it facing the windshield.







- Loosen connector catches - arrow - and disconnect control module connectors.
- Remove Engine Control Module (ECM).







- Connect V.A.G 1598/31 test box to connectors of wiring harness. Connect Ground (GND) clip at test box to Ground (GND) (not visible in illustration). The procedures will indicate whether the Engine Control Module (ECM) is to be connected to the test box.

When harness connectors are disconnected from the Engine Control Module (ECM) or the battery is disconnected, all adaptation values in the control module are erased. However, DTC memory content will remain intact. If the engine is started after this, the idle may be rough for a short period. In this case, the readiness code must be generated again. Generate Readiness Code







Test Box, Connecting to TCM Wiring Harness
Component location: The control module is located in the center plenum chamber, near ECM.

Work Procedure







- Pry off both covers - 3 - using a screwdriver.
- Wiper arm, removing







- Remove rubber seal -1 - for plenum chamber cover.
- Remove plenum chamber cover - 2 - and disconnect washer fluid line.
- Disconnect washer nozzle heating electrical connectors.
- Switch ignition on.







- Activate windshield wipers and switch ignition off when both wiper linkage points - a - point towards right.

NOTE:
- This step is necessary to obtain better access to the TCM.
- The TCM connector may be inserted or removed 0 seconds after switching ignition off.







- Release connector in direction of arrow and disconnect from TCM.

NOTE:
- Protect fenders and plenum chamber metal from scratches with adhesive tape.
- Protect fenders from scratches with adhesive tape.

- Remove 4 TCM securing nuts.
- Remove TCM.
- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to TCM wiring harness.

Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:

NOTE: Adaptation values in Transmission Control Module (TCM) are reset when disconnecting the harness connector. Control module must learn this value anew after bringing into operation again. Gear changing quality may be poorer than normal during this "learning" process.

- Tighten 4 control module securing nuts to 10 Nm.
