Fuel Injectors, Checking Injection Quantity and Proper Seal

Fuel Injectors, Checking Injection Quantity And Proper Seal

Recommended Special Tools, Workshop Equipment, Testers, Measuring Instruments and Auxiliary Items
- V.A.G 1348/3A remote control with V.A.G 1348/3-2 adapter cable
- V.A.G 1602 Calibration tester
Not illustrated:
- V.A.G 1594 A connector test kit

Test Conditions
- Fuel pressure must be OK, checking. Fuel Pressure Regulator and Residual Pressure, Checking

CAUTION: Fuel system is under pressure. Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.

Test Sequence
- Pull off connectors from fuel injectors.
- Remove fuel rail securing bolts.
- Then remove the fuel rail completely.
- Disconnect vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator.
- Lift fuel rail with injectors off intake manifold and support it.
- Connect test box to control module wiring harness Test Box, Connecting for Wiring Test. Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test

Checking for Leaks

NOTE: This work step allows the fuel pump to run when the engine is not running.

- Bridge sockets 1 + 65 of test box with the corresponding adapter cables.
- Switch ignition on

Fuel Pump (FP) must run.
- Check injectors for leaks (visual inspection). Only 1 to 2 drops per minute may emit from each valve when fuel pump is running.
- Disconnect connection between test box sockets.
- Switch off ignition.

If the fuel loss is greater:
- Replace faulty fuel injector

When installing fuel injector, observe the following:
- Replace O-rings on all injectors and lightly moisten with clean engine oil.
- Insert fuel injectors into fuel rail perpendicular and in correct position, and secure them with retaining clips.
- Position fuel rail with secured fuel injectors on intake manifold and apply uniform pressure to press it in.

- Erase DTC memory of ECM. Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory
- Generate readiness code. Generate Readiness Code

Injection Quantity, Checking
- Insert a fuel injector to be tested into a measuring tube of V.A.G 1602 tester for fuel injection quantity.

- Using corresponding adapter cables, connect one terminal of fuel injector to be checked to engine Ground (GND).
- Use adapter cable to connect second terminal of fuel injector to V.A.G 1348/3 remote control with V.A.G 1348/3-2 adapter cable.
- Connect alligator clip to battery (+).
- Switch ignition on.
- Bridge test box sockets 1 + 65 with corresponding adapter cables.

Fuel Pump (FP) must run.
- Operate remote control V.A.G 1348/3 for 30 seconds.
- Repeat check on the other injectors. To do this use new measuring beakers.

NOTE: While checking the injection quantity, the spray pattern should also be checked. Spray pattern must be the same for all fuel injectors.

- After all injectors have been activated, place the measuring glasses on a horizontal surface and compare the injected quantity.

Engine Codes ATC, AWP
- Specification: 133 to 165 ml per fuel injector

Engine Codes AMU, BEA
- Specification: 165 to 193 ml per fuel injector

- Disconnect connection between test box sockets.
- Switch off ignition.

If the measured value of one or more fuel injectors is below or above the indicated specified value:
- Replace faulty fuel injector.

Perform installation of injectors in reverse order. When doing this note the following:
- Replace O-rings on all injectors and lightly moisten with clean engine oil.
- Insert fuel injectors into fuel rail perpendicular and in correct position, and secure them with retaining clips.
- Position fuel rail with secured fuel injectors on intake manifold and apply uniform pressure to press it in.

- Erase DTC memory of ECM. Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory
- Generate readiness code. Generate Readiness Code
