Engine cooling system components, removing and installing

Note:
^ When the engine is warm the cooling system is under pressure. If necessary release pressure before commencing repair work.
^ Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those installed at the factory.
^ V.A.G. 1921 hose clip pliers are recommended when installing spring-type clips.
^ Replace all gaskets and seals.
^ The arrow markings on the coolant lines and on the ends of the hoses must be aligned with each other.
^ Draining and filling cooling system.
^ Anti-freeze concentration.
^ Coolant hose connection diagram.
^ Checking cooling system for leaks with V.A.G. 1274 and 1274/8.
^ Removing coolant pump.
^ Removing coolant thermostat.
