Function

The ABS control module is equipped with a DTC memory. The connection (DLC) for On Board Diagnostic is located in the driver's footwell, left-side, next to the hood release lever.

On Board Diagnostic works with electrical/electronic parts of the ABS system. Only electrical malfunctions are recognized via the electrical connection to control module (e.g. open circuit of a speed sensor).

The control module recognizes a malfunction during vehicle operation and stores it in a continuous memory. The information is stored even if the battery is disconnected.

Sporadically occurring (intermittent) malfunctions are also recognized and stored. They are identified in the display of the VAG1551 with an "/SP." If after 50 vehicle "start and drive off" cycles the malfunction no longer occurs it is erased from DTC memory (with the exception of malfunction "Control module faulty").

After the ignition is switched on, the ABS indicator light -K47- is activated by the control module and stays on for approx. 2 seconds.

During this time the control module conducts a self - test with the following functions:
^ Supply voltage is checked, at least 10.0 Volts
^ Control module (including valve coils) is checked.
^ Speed sensor check (electric) is conducted; concluded at 20 km/h.
^ Control module coding is checked To begin troubleshooting, always begin On Board Diagnostic using the Scan Tool and check DTC memory to obtain stored information.

The indicated malfunction information is used in conjunction with the DTC table, which contains possible causes and applicable repair information.

CAUTION: During troubleshooting ABS is inactive. This is not indicated by indicator light lighting up
