Attachment Points For Roof Rack, Converting

NOTES:
- As of VIN TRU ZZZ 8N X1 021 700 adapter pieces for roof rack attachment points are installed at production.
- So that every Audi TT customer has the opportunity to have a roof rack mounted on their vehicle, adapter pieces for vehicles prior to above mentioned VIN must be installed.

Part number and contents of conversion kit: 8N8 898 115
- 4x Retainer housing (left front and rear, same as right front and rear).
- 4x Adapter (M8 external thread/ M6 core thread).
- 4x pins (for anchoring flap).
- 4x threaded pin (plastic M6x 10).

CAUTION:
- Before beginning conversion, open anchor flap on roof seam molding to see if conversion has been performed on vehicle.
- If threaded screw with M6 can be installed, the conversion with adapters has been completed.
- If threaded screw with M8 can be installed, the conversion with adapters needs to be completed.

- Remove roof seam molding left and right
- Remove plastic treaded screw (M8x30) from securing nut in edge molding.
- De-grease securing nut.
- If necessary, remove overspray or sealant from adapter contact surfaces avoid shifting or moving.
- Apply thread locking compound D 000 600 A2 to external thread of adapter.

- Turn adapter piece into securing nut and tighten with 16 Nm + 2 N.
- Turn plastic threaded pin (M6 x 10) into adapter piece until contact is reached.

- Press together inner clips of roof seam molding in retainer housing - 1 - at arrows and remove.
- Press securing pin of flap to side and remove from retainer housing.

- Using pliers, pull securing pin completely out of retainer housing.
- Place removed flap into new retainer housing.
- Replace pin and secure flap in new retainer housing.

NOTE:

- The new retainer housing is eroded in area of adapter piece - arrow -.
- Clip retainer housing back into roof seam molding.

- The textured (ridged) end - arrow - of flap - 1 - must point forward when installed.
- Install roof seam molding.
