Subframe bushings, replacing
The bushings can be replaced after lowering the subframe.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383A
^ Splitter Kukko 15-1 mit Kukko 17-1; items. 1, 2 and 4 are not required.
^ Base block VW441
^ Thrust plate VW447 h
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1332, measuring range 40 to 200 Nm
- Remove noise insulation panel.
- Remove Torx socket head bolt for noise insulation panel - left arrow -.
- For vehicles with 165 kW engine (code: APX), remove rubber mounting at front exhaust pipe.
- Remove rear bolts - 1 -.
- By loosening front bolts - 2 - lower subframe far enough until bushings are accessible.
- Position splitter tool Kukkol5-1 with Kukkol7-1, and remove upper half of bushing.
- Insert thrust pad VW447 h.
- Using engine/transmission jack and base block VW441, push subframe upward until lower half of bushing drops out.
- Installation position of bushing halves
A - Upper half of bushing without collar, ribs faces body.
B - Lower half of bushing, collar faces bolt head
Note: Coat the rubber surfaces of the new bushings with assembly lubricant G 294 421 A1.
Note installation position of bushings.
- Insert both bushing halves.
- Press in new bushings using engine/transmission jack.
After installation, check position of steering wheel by test-driving vehicle.
Wheel alignment must be checked and adjusted if steering wheel is not in straight.
