Gear Sets, Adjustments and Markings

Gear Sets, Adjustments and Markings

There are 2 versions of gear seat adjustments and markings.

1. Gear seats where dimension "E" is indicated on outer circumference of ring gear.

2. Gear seats where dimension "e" is indicated on outer circumference of ring gear.

Adjustment and marking gear set, dimension "E" indicated

Dimension - E - is the length for this gear seat that must be adjusted on the master gauge (VW 385/30).

1 - Pairing number "197" for gearing set

2 - Dimension "A1" is dimension between ring gear axle and rear side of pinion face. This dimension is needed for shim "S5" and positioning of inner race/tapered roller bearing. Refer to => [ Redetermining Shim S5 for Positioning Inner Race/Tapered Ball Bearing ] Redetermining Shim S5 for Positioning Inner Race/Tapered Ball Bearing.

3 - Dimension "A2" is not needed for adjusting gear set.

4 - Dimension "E" is the actual dimension between ring gear axle and drive pinion facing side in position of quietest running for this gear set; dimension "E" in this example = 62.50 mm. Dimension "E" is adjusted on the master gauge (VW 385/30).

5 - Dimension "F" is not needed for adjusting gear set.

Vo - Hypoid offset

Adjustment and marking gear set, dimension "e" indicated

That length that must be adjusted on the master gauge (VW 385/30) is always 62.17 mm (= Eo - dimension) with this gear set

1 - Pairing number "1211" for gearing set

2 - Dimension "A1" is the dimension between ring gear axle and rear side of pinion face. This dimension is needed for the shim "S5" and positioning of inner race/tapered roller bearing. Refer to => [ Redetermining Shim S5 for Positioning Inner Race/Tapered Ball Bearing ] Redetermining Shim S5 for Positioning Inner Race/Tapered Ball Bearing.

3 - Dimension "e" is based on the master gauge used on the test bench during production. Dimension "e " is always given in 1/100 mm. Example: "33" means " e" = 0.33 mm

4 - Dimension "F" is not always present, is not needed for adjusting gear set

Eo - Length of master gauge used on the test bench; dimension "Eo" = 62.17 mm.

E - Actual dimension between ring gear axis and face of drive pinion in position of quietest running for this gear set.

Vo - Hypoid offset
