ATF, Changing and Filling after a Repair
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051B)
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782 )
• ATF Filler Tool (V.A.G 1924)
• Protective glasses
Procedure
CAUTION!
The engine must not be started and the vehicle must not be towed if there is no ATF in the transmission!
• The engine is switched off.
- Move the vehicle onto a lifting platform or over a work pit so that it is absolutely level.
Draining ATF
- Remove the noise insulation - arrows -.
- Place Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device ( V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.
- Remove ATF drain plug - 1 -.
- Drain ATF.
• Observe disposal regulations.
• Drain plug with sealing ring must be replaced.
- Tighten new drain plug - 1 - to 40 Nm.
Filling transmission with ATF
CAUTION!
Transmission must be filled exactly according to instructions.
- Fill the reservoir of the ATF Filler Tool (V.A.G 1924) with ATF for automatic transmission 01V; ATF specification => [ Capacities ] 01V,01VA Transmission.
CAUTION!
The ATF filler tool must be clean and the ATF must not be mixed with any other ATF oils!
- Secure ATF Filler Tool (V.A.G 1924) reservoir as high as possible on vehicle.
- Remove ATF inspection plug - 2 -.
- Guide filler hook of ATF Filler Tool (V.A.G 1924 ) into an opening - arrow - of protective cap, do not push cap up and in while doing so.
- Add ATF using ATF Filler Tool (V.A.G 1924) until ATF exits from the check hole.
- Place selector lever in position "P".
- Start engine and allow it to run at idle approximately 20 minutes.
- Stop engine.
- Fill ATF again with ATF Filler Tool (V.A.G 1924 ) until ATF escapes from the inspection hole.
- Start engine and allow it to run at idle.
- Continue to add ATF using ATF Filler Tool (V.A.G 1924) until ATF exits again from the check hole.
- Tighten ATF inspection plug.
- With the engine idling, depress the brake pedal and shift the selector lever through all the selector lever positions, leaving the selector lever in each position for at least 10 seconds.
- Place selector lever in position "P".
- Check ATF level. Refer to => [ ATF Level In Planetary Gearing, Checking and Correcting ] ATF Level In Planetary Gearing, Checking and Correcting.
• Observe all notes and test requirements for "Checking ATF level and correcting".
