Throttle Valve, Checking

Requirements

• An original equipment air filter must be installed and it must be OK.

• Intake air guide OK.

• Fuel pressure OK.

• Tank ventilation OK.

• Fuel injectors OK.

• Coolant temperature > 80 °C.

• Oxygen sensor adaptation values and control OK.

Work sequence

- Connect tester (VAS 5051) and select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics". Refer to => [ VAS5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions ] VAS 5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions Engine must run at idle during this.

Display on (VAS 5051)





- In selection - 1 -, click on the diagnostic function " 04 - Basic Setting".

Display on (VAS 5051):





1. Enter display group

Max. input value = 255

- Select function "032" in button field - 2 - for " display group number 032" and press Q button to confirm input.

Display on (VAS 5051):





- Check specified value in display field - 2 -.





Work sequence

- Disconnect electrical harness connector from Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

- Connect tester (VAS 5051) and select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics". Refer to => [ VAS5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions ] VAS 5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions Engine must run at idle during this.

Requirement

• Engine running at idle select "address word" 01 and " 04" the "Initiate Basic Setting" function.

Display on (VAS 5051):





1. Enter display group

- Enter "107" in button field - 2 - for " display group number 107" and press Q button to confirm input.

Display on (VAS 5051):





- Check indication in display field - 4 -.





If specified value "System OK" is obtained in display field 4:

- Click on arrow button

- Re-connect Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

- For further fault-finding, perform the next test step in the DTC table.

If specified value "System OK" is not obtained in display field 4:

- Click on arrow button

- Clean air guide in throttle valve control module using a lint-free cloth and methylated spirits.

- Adapt throttle valve control module. Refer to => [ Throttle Valve Control Module, Adapting ] Throttle Valve Control Module, Adapting.

- Repeat test sequence: Oxygen sensor control-short trip, measuring value block 107 in Basic Setting 04.

- Re-connect MAF sensor.

- Erase DTC memory. Refer to => [ DTC Memory, Erasing ] DTC Memory, Erasing.

- Perform a road test. Observe safety precautions. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Multiport Fuel Injection.

- DTC memory checked. Refer to => [ DTC Memory, Erasing ] DTC Memory, Erasing.
