Secondary Air Injection Combination Valve, Checking for Function and Leaks
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hand Vacuum Pump (V.A.G 1390)
Test Conditions
• Vacuum lines and hose connections free of leaks.
• Vacuum lines not plugged.
Test Sequence
- Open the quick-release fasteners - arrows - and remove the engine cover.
- Disconnect vacuum hose at combination valve - arrow -.
• To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.
- Connect Hand Vacuum Pump (V.A.G 1390) to combi-valve vacuum connection.
- Loosen quick-release fasteners - 1 - and - 2 - and remove front noise insulation.
- Disconnect pressure hose - arrow - at Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor (V101) and blow into it with light pressure (do not use pressurized air).
• Combination valve must be closed, it must not be possible to blow through.
- Use the Hand Vacuum Pump (V.A.G 1390) to create a vacuum.
• The combination valve must open, it must be possible to blow through.
If combination valve does not open:
- Replace Secondary Air Injection (AIR) combi-valve. Refer to => [ Secondary Air Injection Combination Valve ] Service and Repair.
