Kick-Down Function, Adapting
If Sender for accelerator pedal position (G185) - 2 - for Engine Control Module (ECM) is replaced kick-down function must be adapted on vehicles with automatic transmission.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system ( VAS 5051)
• Adapter (VAS 5051/1)
Conditions
• No DTCs recorded in DTC memory; check DTC memory. Refer to => [ DTC Memory, Erasing ] DTC Memory, Erasing.
• Engine stopped, ignition switched on
Work sequence
- Connect scan tool (VAS 5051) and select vehicle system "01 -Engine electronics" in selection. Refer to => [ VAS5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions ] VAS 5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions.
When doing this the ignition must be switched on.
Display on (VAS 5051) scan tool:
- Under - 1 - select diagnostic function "04 - Basic setting".
Display on (VAS 5051):
1. Enter display group
- Enter "063" for "display group number 063" in field - 2 - and confirm entry by pressing Q button.
Display on (VAS 5051):
- Activate basic setting by pressing A button.
• There will be a prompt: "Activate kick-down".
- Depress accelerator pedal completely, past kick-down point, and hold down.
• During the kick-down point adaptation process, "Kick-down ADP running" is shown on the display. After successful adaptation of the kickdown point "Kick-down ADP OK" appears on the display.
- Check indication in display field - 4 -.
All models
• "ADP" in display field 4 stands for adaptation.
• "ERROR" may be displayed, if accelerator pedal is not pressed immediately when instructed by tester, or if accelerator pedal was released while adaptation was already running but process was not yet complete. In both cases exit "basic setting" mode and carry out adaptation again. Refer to => [ Kick-Down Function, Adapting ] Testing and Inspection.
