Exhaust System, Aligning

• Align exhaust system when cold.

Vehicles without clamping sleeve between center and rear muffler

- Loosen front double clamp bolts => [ (Item 9) Front clamping sleeve ] Exhaust System Component Overview.

- Push exhaust system far enough forward - arrow - until the pre-load on the right retaining loop at center muffler is - a - = 5 to 9 mm.





- Tighten front clamping sleeve bolts => [ (Item 9) Front clamping sleeve ] Exhaust System Component Overview evenly to 40 Nm.

- Align end pipes.

Vehicles with clamping sleeve between center and rear muffler

• Only for vehicles with double clamp between center and rear muffler, the center muffler must also be aligned.

- Loosen front clamping sleeve bolt => [ (Item 9) Front clamping sleeve ] Exhaust System Component Overview and rear clamping sleeve bolts => [ (Item 21) Rear clamping sleeves ] Exhaust System Component Overview.

- Push front section of the exhaust system forward - arrow - until the pre-load on the retaining loops on the center muffler - a - = 5 to 9 mm.





- Tighten front clamping sleeve bolt => [ (Item 9) Front clamping sleeve ] Exhaust System Component Overview evenly to 40 Nm.

- Push rear part of exhaust system far enough forward - arrow - until the pre-load on the rear retaining loops at rear muffler is - a - = 7 to 11 mm.





- Align rear muffler horizontally.

- Tighten rear clamping sleeve bolts => [ (Item 21) Rear clamping sleeves ] Exhaust System Component Overview evenly to 40 Nm.

- Align end pipes.

Tailpipes, aligning





- Check distance of end pipes at left and right to bumper:

• Dimension - x - left = dimension - x - right.

If necessary, correct dimension - x - as follows:

- Loosen nut - arrow - of brace between exhaust pipes.





- Adjust distance between the rear mufflers.

- Tighten nut to 23 Nm.

- Check distances - y - and - z - of end pipes to bumper:





• Dimension - y - = greater than 20 mm.

• Dimension - z - = 10 to 16 mm.

- If necessary, check whether the exhaust system is aligned tension-free. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures.
