Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
Seal for crankshaft - ribbed belt side, replacing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Seal remover 3203
^ Counter Support 3415
^ Assembly tool T10053
^ Torque wrench V.A.G. 1331
^ Torque wrench V.A.G. 1332
Removing
- Remove ribbed belt.
- Remove Toothed belt.
- Loosen crankshaft toothed belt gear. To do this, lock toothed belt sprocket with Counter Support 3415.
- Remove center bolt - 1 - for crankshaft toothed belt gear - 2 - and remove toothed belt gear.
- Remove diamond disc - 3 - from toothed belt gear.
- To guide seal puller, thread center bolt into crankshaft by hand until stop.
- Remove inner part of seal remover 3203 nine rotations (approx. 20 mm) from outer part and secure with knurled-head screw.
- Grease threaded head of seal puller 3203, position and install into oil seal as far as possible with forceful pressure.
- Loosen knurled screw and turn inner portion against crankshaft until oil seal is pulled out.
- Secure seal remover in a vise at the flat spots. Remove seal using pliers
Installing
^ Tightening torques refer to Front sealing flange, assembly overview
- Clean running and sealing surface.
- Before installing, remove oil remains from end of crankshaft with a clean cloth.
- Position guide sleeve T10053/1 of assembly tool T10053 on end of crankshaft.
- Slide sealing ring over guide sleeve onto crankshaft pin.
- Press in seal using center bolt of toothed belt sprocket and pressure sleeve of assembly tool T10053 until it is flush.
- Install crankshaft toothed belt gear - 2 - with new diamond disc - 3 - and new center bolt - 1 -.
Note:
^ Contact surface between toothed belt gear, diamond disc and crankshaft must be free of oil.
^ Do not oil the bolt for crankshaft toothed belt sprocket.
- Use Counter Support 3415 to tighten crankshaft toothed belt gear.
- Install toothed belt.
- Install ribbed belt.
