Stabilizer bar, removing and installing
Removing
- Remove rear wheels.
- Remove rubber mounting for exhaust pipe at center of vehicle.
- Position engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383A with universal mount 1359/2 and a wood block support underneath the center muffler.
- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamp - arrows -.
- Remove bolts - arrow - for exhaust pipe bracket and heat shield on left and right sides at rear of vehicle. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
- Lower transmission jack slightly.
- Remove exhaust system.
- If necessary, remove clip for heat shield by unscrewing using a screwdriver or long-nose pliers.
- Remove heat shield.
- Remove bolts 14. Tightening torque: 20 Nm. Tighten both bolts to an initial torque of 5 Nm.
- Remove nuts - 12 -. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
- Remove coupling rod - 16 - from stabilizer bar - 13 -.
- Remove stabilizer bar clamp - 15 - and stabilizer bar - 13 -.
Installing
- Installation is carried out in reverse sequence.
Note: Do not tighten nut - 12 - until shock absorbers have been installed.
Centering tailpipe in bumper cut-out
- Align rear muffler to give equal clearance - a - and - b - between bumper cut-out and tailpipe. If necessary loosen rear muffler mounting to center tailpipe.
For vehicles with a joint between the front and rear muffler, release the clamp if necessary.
225 HP version
- Install new clamps so that the ends of the bolts do not protrude beyond the bottom of the clamp. (The illustration shows the clamp looking from front to rear.) Tightening torque of bolts: 40 Nm.
180 HP version
- Install new clamps so that the ends of the bolts do not protrude beyond the bottom of the clamp. (The illustration shows the clamp looking from front to rear.) Tightening torque of bolts: 40 Nm.
