Shift mechanism, checking, 09G, 6 Speed A/T
^ It should not be possible to actuate the starter if the selector lever is in the "S", "D" or "R" position, or in the Tiptronic setting.
^ At speeds over 5 km/h and with the selector lever set to "N", the shift lock solenoid should not engage and should lock the selector lever. Selector lever can be shifted into a driving gear.
^ When travelling at speeds below 5 km/h (almost stopped) and shifting into selector lever position "N", shift lock solenoid must not engage until after approx. 1 second. Selector lever cannot be shifted out of "N" position until brake pedal is depressed.

Selector lever in "P" position and ignition switched on:
^ Brake pedal not depressed:

The selector lever is locked and cannot be moved from the "P" position. The shift lock solenoid locks the selector lever.
^ Brake pedal depressed:

Shift lock solenoid releases selector lever. It is possible to shift into a driving gear. Slowly shift the selector lever from "P" through "R, N, D, S" checking whether the display on the instrument cluster corresponds to the selector lever position.

Selector lever in "N" position and ignition switched on:
^ Brake pedal not depressed:

Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of "N" position. The shift lock solenoid locks the selector lever.
^ Brake pedal depressed:

Shift lock solenoid releases selector lever. It is possible to shift into a driving gear.

Selector lever in "D" position and ignition and light switched on:
^ Selector lever shifted into the Tiptronic gate:

The "D" symbol in the selector lever display should no longer be illuminated and the "+" and "-" symbols should illuminate.

The selector lever position display in the instrument cluster must switch from "PRDNS" to "654321" when the selector lever is shifted into the Tiptronic gate.
- Check and adjust selector lever cable.
- Check ignition key withdrawal lock.
