Notes on 6 speed automatic transmission 09G, 09G, 6 Speed A/T

Transmission
The automatic transmission 09G is equipped with 6 hydraulically activated forward gears. When the lock-up clutch is closed, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears become mechanically driven gears by cutting out the torque converter slip.

Torque converter
The torque converter is equipped with a lock-up clutch. The lock-up clutch is closed dependent on load and speed.

ATF
The ATF filling is a lifetime filling. ATF does not need to be changed during routine maintenance.

The ATF level in the planetary gearbox and in the final drive are checked and filled up together.

Only the ATF available as a replacement part may be used in the automatic transmission 09G. Other oils cause malfunctions and/or breakdown of the transmission.

On Board Diagnostic (OBD)
Before performing repairs to the automatic transmission, determine the cause of the malfunction as precisely as possible using the "Guided fault finding".

The "Guided fault finding" is performed using the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.

Changes in switching points with inclines and declines
When driving up or down an incline on a road the gears are selected automatically depending on position of accelerator and driving speed.
^ Shift map for extreme ascent is adapted to engine performance.
^ Shift map for extreme descent is adapted to engine performance.
^ By direct selection of a gear via the Tiptronic, the engine braking effect can also be fully exploited via a specific gear.
