Suspension strut, assembly overview
1 - Self-locking hex nut, 60 Nm
2 - Stop shell
3 - Body (suspension strut dome)
4 - Hex nut, 60 Nm
^ Always replace
5 - Suspension strut bearing
^ Coat with assembly lubricant G 294 421 A1.
6 - Deep-groove thrust ball bearing
7 - Spring plate
8 - Coil spring
^ Note color code
^ Surface of spring coil must not be damaged
^ Note different spring/shock absorber versions; refer to vehicle data sticker
9 - Protective sleeve
10 - Stop buffer
11 - Shock absorber
^ The same version must be installed on both sides
12 - Coupling link
^ Link between stabilizer bar and suspension strut
13 - Self-locking nut
^ 90 Nm
^ Always replace if removed
14 - Hex bolt, 10 Nm
15 - Bracket
^ For brake hose
16 - Spring clip
17 - Clamp
18 - Hex bolt
^ Always replace if removed
19 - Self-locking nut
^ 60 Nm plus an additional 90° 1/4 turn
^ Always replace if removed
20 - Wheel bearing housing
Removing suspension strut from wheel bearing housing
- Insert special tool - 3424 - as shown and force wheel bearing housing apart.
