November 14, 2008.
Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 40 number 04-01 dated November 1, 2004 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
40 Front stabilizer bar is noisy
Condition
Front stabilizer bar makes noise when going over bumps.
Technical Background
This may be caused by the stabilizer bar bushing sleeve separating from the bar. Noise is generated when the bar moves up or down.
Production Solution
New version of stabilizer bar installed.
Service
1. Test drive vehicle to verify customer concern. The noise may only be present when vehicle is either warm or cold.
2. Visually inspect underbody for damage.
3. Inspect front stabilizer bar (Figure 1, 1) at rubber mount (Figure 1, 2) for any signs of damage (bushing separated from stabilizer bar).
Alternative inspection method:
1. Disconnect left and right side coupling links (Figure 1, 3) from front stabilizer bar and move stabilizer bar (Figure 1, 1) up and down several times. Observe rubber mount (Figure 1, 2) for any signs of damage such as the bushing separated from stabilizer bar.
2. If bushing has separated from stabilizer bar, replace stabilizer bar. (Only new version parts are available as replacement parts).
