Valve Guide: Testing and Inspection

Valve guides, checking





- Insert valve into valve guide until end of valve stem is flush with end of guide. Due to slight difference in stem diameters, ensure that only an intake valve is used in intake guide and an exhaust valve in exhaust guide.
- Measure amount of sideways play.

Wear limit





Note:
^ If the wear limit is exceeded, repeat the measurement with new valves. If the wear limit is again exceeded, replace the valve guide.
^ If the valve is to be replaced as part of a repair, use a new valve for the measurement.

Grinding in valve seats

- Grind in valve seats only as far as necessary to achieve a good seating pattern.
