Front Axle Components



ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Wire, Replacing

Note:
^ Always use Wiring Harness Repair Kit VAS 1978 for repairs on wiring harnesses and connectors.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Removing





- Remove screws (arrows).
- Remove forward left-hand cover panel - arrows -.





- If installed, disconnect secondary air intake hose -1- from air cleaner.
- Disconnect air hose -2- from mass air flow sensor.
- Unplug connector -3- from mass air flow sensor.
- Unscrew bolts -4- and -5-.
- Remove air cleaner housing.





- Release control unit connector - arrow 1 - and unplug - arrow 2 -.





- Release cap on multi-pin connector with a screwdriver and remove.





- Release secondary catch (violet) with a small screwdriver by pressing in direction indicated - arrow -.





- Contact assignment of 47-pin connector on ABS Control Module J104





- Using a suitable ejector tool from Wiring Harness Repair Kit VAS 1978, push out the relevant contacts.





- Unplug brake wear indicator connector -1- on left brake.
- Unclip wiring from bracket -2-.
- Release connector on wheel speed sensor and disconnect wiring.
- Remove defective wiring for wheel speed sensor.

Installing

Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:

- Install new wheel speed sensor wiring.





- Clip in speed sensor wiring - arrow.

Note:
^ Make sure sensor wire is not twisted in wheel housing.

- Guide contacts into connector housing.





- Push individual wiring seals in onto stop with an insertion tool from Wiring Harness Repair Kit VAS 1978.
- Secure contacts with secondary locking device and install multi-pin connector cover cap.
