Rear Brake Caliper Piston, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Resetting and extracting tool VAS 3272





^ Removing wedge VAS 3409

^ Bleeder container

Removing





- Apply special tool 3272 together with 3272/1 to piston on brake caliper housing.
- Screw piston out of brake caliper housing by turning the knurled wheel counter-clockwise.

Note:
^ If piston is stiff, use a 13 mm open-ended wrench to be applied at appropriate flats - arrow -.





- Remove seal using Removing wedge VAS 3409.

Installing

- The surface of the piston and seal must be cleaned with methylated spirits and then dried.
- Thinly coat piston and seal with assembly paste G 052 150 A2 before inserting.
- Insert oil seal in brake caliper housing.





- Place protective seal with the outer sealing lip on the piston.





- Using Removing wedge VAS 3409, insert the inner sealing lip into the grove in the cylinder.

Note:
^ When doing this hold piston in front of caliper housing.





- Apply special tool 3272 together with 3272/1 to piston on brake caliper housing.
- Screw piston into housing by turning knurled wheel clockwise.

Note:
^ Adjusting piston with a normal resetting tool destroys automatic adjuster in brake caliper.

- Install brake pads.

Brake Caliper, Pre-Bleeding





- Open bleeder screw - arrow A - and use a standard bleeder bottle to fill with brake fluid until bubble-free brake fluid flows from the threaded hole - arrow B - (brake hose connection). Close bleeder screw.

Note:
^ Position brake caliper as illustrated to pre-bleed.
