Brake Caliper Piston, 2FN, Removing and Installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Removing wedge VAS 3409
^ Piston resetting tool
Removing
- Force piston out of brake caliper housing using compressed air.
Note:
^ Place a piece of wood in the recess to prevent damaging the piston.
^ You can only remove one piston at a time; hold the other piston in the caliper housing using the piston resetting tool.
- Remove protective seal from piston groove using Removing wedge VAS 3409.
- Take out piston.
Note:
^ Make sure that the surface of the cylinder is not damaged, when removing.
- Take out protective seal using Removing wedge VAS 3409.
- Use Removing wedge VAS 3409 to remove seal.
Note:
^ Make sure that the surface of the cylinder is not damaged, when removing.
Installing
- The surface of the piston and seal must be cleaned with methylated spirits only, and then dried.
- Thinly coat piston and seal with assembly paste G 052 150 A2 before inserting.
- Insert seal in brake caliper housing.
- Position outer sealing lip of protective seal on piston.
- Insert the inner sealing lip into the grove in the cylinder, using Removing wedge VAS 3409.
Note:
^ When doing this hold piston in front of caliper housing.
- Press piston into brake caliper housing as far as possible by hand.
- Press piston into brake caliper housing using piston resetting tool.
Note:
^ The outer sealing lip of the protective seal will then locate in the piston groove.
