Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) table

Notes for DTC table

- Because of the inter-connectivity of various control modules via a data-BUS wire, the "Automatic test sequence" must always be initiated via the button combination -0- -0- at the beginning of every troubleshooting procedure. This checks all of the control modules installed in the vehicle and their potential DTCs.

- The following table lists all malfunctions that can be recognized by the ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104- and printed out by the VAG1551 scan tool or VAS5051 tester. The malfunctions are listed in order according to their 5-digit numbers.

- If a malfunction only occurs occasionally, or if DTC memory is not erased after a malfunction has been repaired, the malfunction will be shown as a"sporadically occurring malfunction" -SP- => malfunction recognition by the ABS control module.

- The DTC appears (in operating mode "Rapid Data Transfer") only on the print-out.

- The three digit malfunction type number appearing next to the DTC is a data code and can be ignored. The text relating to malfunction type should be used however.

- The column "Corrective action" refers to specific test steps of the Electrical Test.

- Before replacing the component determined to be faulty, check all relevant harness connectors, wires and Ground (GND) connections according to wiring diagram.

- Always check DTC memory using the VAG1551 or VAS5051 after repair work and then erase it.

- Also road test vehicle (at above 20 km/h).

- Check DTC memory again after road test.
