Spoiler, Installing
NOTES:
- Prior to beginning procedure, remove center pin from spoiler and screw in center bolt.
- Follow correct sequence for tightening nuts when securing spoiler,
- Place spoiler - 2 - into fixture up against upper locators - 1 -.
- Slide spoiler - 2 - forward in direction of arrow - a -, keeping in contact with locators at ends of fixture - 1 -.
CAUTION: During procedure, spoiler must be set against locating block.
- Slide spoiler downward onto lid in direction off arrow - b -.
- Hold spoiler in position, open hatch and check position of studs through holes
- Remove spoiler and set aside.
Tightening sequence for nut
- A second person is required to hold spoiler in correct position, while another screws lock nuts onto outer studs of spoiler, tightening only to hold spoiler in position.
- Apply small amount of thread lock compound to middle studs to secure nuts.
- Screw nuts - 1 - onto inner studs - 2 - until torx splines - arrow - are clear.
- Using torx socket E5, turn stud - 2 - counter clockwise until stud is in contact with reinforcement panel - 4 -.
- Hold stud - 2 - torx socket (E5) and tighten nut - 1 - using offset box end wrench.
- Measure gap - a - using adjustment gauge 3371.
- Gap - a - should be 1 mm + 1 mm.
- If gap is correct and there is no viable distortion in outer panel of lid, tighten outer nuts to 5 Nm.
- If gap is not correct, loosen nuts and adjust gap
Gap too wide
- Loosen nuts on outer studs.
- Loosen nuts on inner studs.
- Tun shoulder stud clockwise into spoiler the amount gap needs to be reduced.
- Tighten nuts using torque wrench.
- With correct adjustment, gap should be 1 mm + 1 mm.
- If gap is correct, and no viable distortion in outer panel of lid is detected at fastening points, torque outer nuts to 5 Nm.
NOTE: If distortion is visible, spoiler has been pulled down too tight against outer skin. If this is the case, proceed to "Gap too small" adjustment"
Gap too small
- Loosen nuts on outer studs.
- Loosen nuts on inner studs.
- Tun shoulder stud counter-clockwise into spoiler the amount gap needs to be increased.
- Tighten nuts using torque wrench.
- With correct adjustment, gap should be 1 mm + 1 mm.
- If gap is correct, and no viable distortion in outer panel of lid is detected at fastening points, torque outer nuts to 5 Nm.
CAUTION: Any adjustments to the position of the spoiler on the hatch can only be made within 10 minutes of mixing the adhesive.
- Gasket strip - 3 - will prevent spreading of excess adhesive.
- Gap - a - must be set to 1 mm + 1 mm.
- Check proper position of spoiler on rear lid.
- Lower corners of spoiler must be line with upper corners of tail lights when rear lid is closed.
NOTES: On Roadster vehicles, nuts at outer holes, and respectively, inner holes must be covered with rubber plugs.
WARNING: Adhesive requires at least 2 hours at room temperature to harden.
