Rear Side Airbag

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags => [ Airbag Safety Precautions ] Airbag Safety Precautions.

CAUTION!
On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off emergency (back-up) battery for Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. Switch-on emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting vehicle battery





1 - Zip fastener

2 - Driver-side and passenger-side rear side airbags

Removing

The battery must be disconnected when the ignition is switched on.

- Switch on ignition.

- Disconnect the battery ground strap.

- Remove rear seat bench => [ Rear Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.

- Remove rear seat backrest => [ Rear Backrest ] Rear Seats.

- Pry out side clamping strips - 3 - using a screwdriver.

- Pry out lower clamping strip - 9 - using a screwdriver.

- Pull the cover - 8 - down over the bracket - 7 -.

- Turn back cover in area of side airbag - 2 -.

- Unzip - 1 - protective cover of side airbag - 4 -.

- Open securing clip at side airbag connector - 5 - and disconnect connector.

- Turn back cover and upholstery in area of side airbag - 2 - far enough so the back side of the side airbag is accessible.

- Remove nuts - 6 - (Qty. 2).

- Remove side airbag - 2 -.

Installing

- Install side airbag - 2 - in reverse order of removal.

- Close zip fastener - 1 - on protective cover for side airbag - 4 - using Closing Pliers (VAS 6138) or Pliers For Rear Side Airbag, Audi (VAS 6273), different zip fasteners have been installed.

CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Connect battery ground strap.

9 - Lower retaining strip

Follow the safety precautions after connecting the battery.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) signals a malfunction after installation, DTC memory must be checked, erased and once again checked using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 A).
