Passenger Knee Airbag

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags => [ Airbag Safety Precautions ] Airbag Safety Precautions.

CAUTION!
On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off emergency (back-up) battery for Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. Switch-on emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting vehicle battery

The battery must be disconnected when the ignition is switched on.

- Switch on ignition.

- Disconnect battery.

- Remove glove compartment => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment. Make sure the knee airbag is installed on the glove compartment.

- Disconnect knee airbag connector (yellow).





- To do so, pull locking mechanism - 2 - in direction of arrow and disconnect connectors - 1 - and - 3 -.

- Remove glove compartment - 2 -.





- Remove screws - 3 - (Qty. 3).

- Unclip cover - 1 - at bottom.

- Disengage cover - 1 - at top.

- Remove cover - 1 -.

- Remove bolts - 2 - (Qty. 6) and - 3 - (Qty. 2).





CAUTION!
Bolts - arrow A - may not be loosened.

Harness connector - arrow B - may not be disconnected.

- Remove front passenger's side knee airbag - 1 -.

- Place airbag unit - 1 - so padding faces upward.

4 Glove compartment

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:

- Replace the following components after an airbag deploys:

Glove compartment

Glove compartment mounting bolts

Bolts - 2 - and - 3 - for securing knee airbag





CAUTION!
Replace cover - 1 - after every removal!

- When installing, first engage cover - 1 - at top.





- Then, clip in cover - 1 - at bottom.

- Make sure the knee airbag connector engages audibly with the coupling.

CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Connect the battery.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) signals a malfunction after installation, DTC memory must be checked, erased and once again checked using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 A).

Tightening torque:s

Bolt - 2 -: 2.5 Nm





Bolt - 3 -: 2.5 Nm

Cover to glove compartment: 2.5 Nm
