Driver Knee Airbag

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags => [ Airbag Safety Precautions ] Airbag Safety Precautions.

CAUTION!
On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off emergency (back-up) battery for Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. Switch-on emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting vehicle battery

The battery must be disconnected when the ignition is switched on.

- Switch on ignition.

- Disconnect battery.

- Remove driver's side storage compartment => [ Driver Side Storage Compartment Assembly Overview ] Driver Side Storage Compartment Assembly Overview. Make sure the knee airbag is installed on the storage compartment.

- Disconnect knee airbag connector (yellow).





- To do so, pull locking mechanism - 2 - in direction of arrow and disconnect connectors - 1 - and - 3 -.

- Remove storage compartment - 4 -.





- Unclip connector - 2 -.

- Remove nuts - 3 - (1Qty. 3).

- Remove driver's side knee airbag - 1 -.

- Place airbag unit - 1 - so padding faces upward.

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:

- Replace the following components after an airbag deploys:

Driver-side storage compartment - 4 -

Driver side storage compartment mounting bolts

Nuts - 3 - to secure knee airbag

- Make sure the knee airbag connector engages audibly with the coupling.

CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Connect the battery.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) signals a malfunction after installation, DTC memory must be checked, erased and once again checked using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 A).

Tightening torque:s

Knee airbag to the driver side storage compartment: 2.5 Nm
