Battery Interrupt Igniter
CAUTION!
Battery Interrupt Igniters (-N253) are pyrotechnic components. The same safety measures apply as with airbags. Observe safety precautions for work on airbags => [ Airbag Safety Precautions ] Airbag Safety Precautions.
• If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) lights up after a vehicle accident, check whether crash data is stored using. If this is the case, check in DTC memory whether for Battery Interrupt Igniter (-N253) there is entered the DTC 001 Resistance too large. If this is the case, Battery Interrupt Igniter (-N253) must be replaced.
Component location in luggage compartment, right side, under side cover for luggage compartment trim.
Removing
• To remove the airbag, battery must be disconnected with the ignition switched on.
- Switch on ignition.
- Disconnect battery.
- Open cover - 1 - for Battery Interrupt Igniter (-N253).
CAUTION!
Before disconnecting electrical connection, technician must discharge electrostatic energy. To do this, briefly touch door lock, for example.
- Disengage latch of electrical harness connector - 4 - and disconnect connector.
- Unscrew nuts - 2 - (Qty. 2) and remove Battery Interrupt Igniter (-N253).

Installing
CAUTION!

- Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following.
- Observe the specified Tightening torque.
- When connecting electrical connector, ensure it engages securely and locking mechanism is OK.
CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.
- Follow the safety precautions after connecting the battery.
- Finally, check DTC memory for airbag control module using and process if necessary.
